Let’s learn how to draw Makishima Yusuke from Yowamushi Pedal today!
Makishima Yusuke (巻島 裕介) is one of the supporting characters of the Yowamushi Pedal series. He is a high school senior at Sohoku High School and a member of the Sohoku High Bicycle Club. He comes from an affluent family and lives in an extremely large mansion. He is the mentor of the main character Onoda Sakamichi. He is known as the “Peak Spider” for his unusual Dancing Technique on the bike. His dancing style tilts the frame of his bike exceptionally far which makes him fast at climbing. His pendulum dancing technique is far more pronounced than other cyclists.
Makishima has a tall and thin disposition. He has long, flowing green hair with red highlights, although his natural hair color is brown. He has one mole under his left eye and the other is by his lower lip. His face is long with a narrow chin. With narrow, down-turned eyebrows and hooded eyelids, Makishima has a permanent gloomy look to his eyes. He either wears the Sohoku uniform or the school uniform when competing or on school property. When he is out, though, he tends to display his strange fashion sense, wearing clothing with a variety of colors and patterns. He seems to like wearing shirts that have different colored sleeves.
He is socially awkward, blunt and prone to cynicism, cool and he is seen as creepy guy due to his awkward facial expressions. Makishima has admitted to being bad at socializing. However, he is level-headed and kind-hearted and much softer than he looks, as he cares deeply for his friends, becoming embarrassed by genuine praise, and often gives useful advice about cycling. He uses his cynicism and frustration to push himself forward. Makishima is able to use the information of many factors during races to calculate the most efficient pace to maintain in order to go as far as possible. Makishima has a distinct verbal tic. He ends sentences with “sho” (ショ), replacing the end of words with “sho”, or mumbling and exclaiming the sound.
Thanks a lot to Momotarou for request. ^_^
Step 1
As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Step 5
Step 6
Step 7
Step 8
Step 9
Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.
Step 10
Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.
Step 11
To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Makishima Yusuke from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.
Draw with passion! ^_^
