Let’s learn how to draw Dio “Lord Dio” Brando from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure today!
Dio Brando (ディオ・ブランドー Dio Burandō), later known simply as DIO (DIOディオ), is the main antagonist of the first (Phantom Blood) and third parts (Stardust Crusaders) of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series, as well as a posthumous primary antagonist in the sixth part, Stone Ocean. He is the father of four sons, a powerful vampire and wields the Stand (a visual manifestation of life energy, an entity psychically generated by its owner) known as The World, which has the ability to stop time. He is the sworn archenemy of the Joestar family with his goal to annihilate the Joestar Bloodline.
Dio was born in slums of London around 1868 as the son of Dario Brando, an abusive drunk, whom he later killed. Father told him of his encounter with a wealthy and extravagant man named George Joestar who felt indebted to him. Father told him to take what he can from the Joestar estate. Dio was adopted into the Joestar family. He imidiatelly start to make the life of George’s only son Jonathan a living hell as part of his plan to subvert him. Dio starts to outperform Jonathan in everything he does, leading Jonathan’s father and even his friends to praise him and Jonathan himself getting jealous. Hovewer after he spent the last few years feigning being brotherly and friendly toward Jonathan, Dio decided to enact his plan to poison George. Due circumstances beyond his control he changed his plan and became a vampire. Dio then set up his plans for world dominion in the village of Wind Knight’s Lot, while turning most of the townsfolk into his zombie army. Known simply as “DIO”, the vampire starts traveling around the world, meeting with various people who would later become his henchmen. Around this time, he learned about a prophecy to create the ultimate stand, who would have the power to recreate the world. Later DIO’s ambition shift from conquering the world to creating a perfect world for him and his servants. He is shown to be an extremely arrogant and ambitious megalomaniac. He will do anything to get what he wants, even if it means trampling people or relinquishing his humanity in favor of becoming a vampire. However, DIO is not entirely evil, at least not at first. He does show a good side to those who are good to him.
Thanks a lot to zanebluefox for request. ^^
As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with text so will only describe steps that require some explanation. Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.
Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneedable eraser on paper. Make sure to refer to the picture above as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines. There are also some new lines so better sketch them in pencil first ^_^.
Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.
To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Dio Brando from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.
Draw with passion! ^_^
