Let’s learn how to draw Izumi Miyamura from Horimiya today!
Izumi Miyamura (宮村 伊澄 Miyamura Izumi) is one of the main protagonists of the Horimiya series. He is a student in Katagiri Senior High School. Izumi is a handsome young man of average height with slim figure, pale skin and a slightly feminine-looking face. He has deep blue eyes with attractive long lashes and thin eyebrows. His hair is black and messy and goes down to his nape with parted bangs. At first, despite the weather, he wears a winter school uniform and blazer in order to hide his dark-colored tattoos, which are located on his left shoulder, upper left arm and side. He also keeps his hair shoulder-length and straight to avoid drawing attention to his piercings in each ear. Out of school, he wears a more casual clothes. He removes his thick-rimmed glasses and keeps his hair tied up into a small ponytail with a few bangs framing his face.
In school, he gives off an impression of a quiet, gloomy, anti-social person. His classmates’ perception of him is that he is an otaku with good studying capabilities, but a hard person to approach and maintain a conversation with. Actually, he adopted a pessimistic nature because of bullies and he hates drawing any sort of unnecessary attention towards himself. He appears to have very low self-esteem and is very awkward when talking to people he’s not close with. He can’t connect well with others. In fact Izumi is also quite laid-back towards his studies and goes along with the belief that everything is fine as long as he is able to graduate. Upon interacting with more of his classmates, Izumi is shown to be a good friend and a caring person that often goes out of his way to help others. He has a short tempered and violent tendencies when his friends are involved in argumentative affairs or when he is trying to defend himself from physical attacks. At times, Izumi can be rather dense and impulsive. He can be seen helping out in the family’s bakery. He is very good at making desserts, especially cakes. He is very afraid of anything related to horror or gore but usually watches horror movies because Hori enjoys them.
Step 1
As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9
Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.

Step 10
Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.

Step 11
To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Izumi Miyamura from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^-^.
Draw with passion! ^_^
