Let’s learn how to draw 2-D from Gorillaz today!
Stuart Harold “2-D” Pot is a fictional English musician and member of the British virtual band Gorillaz. He serves as Gorillaz’s lead vocalist and plays the keyboard for the band. 2-D’s singing voice is provided by Blur frontman Damon Albarn on Gorillaz’ recordings and performances. He was created by Albarn and Jamie Hewlett in 1998.
2-D was born on May 23, 1978 in Crawley, England, to David and Rachel Tusspot, changed to Pot to avoid 2-D from getting bullied at school. Stuart wasn’t a very intelligent boy, but he was known as a kind person and had a general love of music. When he was 11 years old, he hit his head when falling from a tree, it caused all of his hair to fall out. When it grew back it was a deep ‘azure blue’. 2-D would appear to have a chronic history of violent blows to the head, coupled with a complete lack of natural intelligence. On August 1997, when Stuart was 19, his life changed forever after he meet hooligan Murdoc Niccals, during accident, in which Murdoc’s bumper crashed into Stuart’s face. One year later Murdoc caused another accident in which sent Stuart crashing through the windscreen. When Stuart awoke after sliding through the cement for about a mile, he turned to look at Murdoc. This was the moment when Murdoc knew he had his frontman. “A blue-haired, black-eyed god”, Murdoc recalls. Murdoc nicknamed Stuart ‘2-D’, which stands for the “Two Dents” in his head.
He is tall and thin pretty boy with pale skin. His hands are big with long fingers. His eyes are black with blue bags underneath. 2-D has thick, bushy, rectangular eyebrows. Because of his 8-ball fracture when the iris of the eye filled with blood also called a hyphema, causing his pupils to be completely invisible most of the time. His naturally brown hair have fallen out after accident and have grown back in a deep azure blue. Later he has started painting his nails. Even his eyes changed color from black to white most of the time. He is missing a front tooth.
2-D is also absent minded, daydreams frequently, clumsy and accident prone. He is generally calm and peaceful, rarely expressing anger or frustration towards others. He is polite, well mannered, kind, very quiet, shy and easily frightened. He has been a Buddhist since discovering the Tibetan independence movement and shares a zen-bond with bandmate Noodle.

As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.

Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.

Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.

To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Band from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.
